What Is Allulose?

Allulose is a rare sugar found naturally in small amounts in foods like figs, raisins, and maple syrup. It tastes about 70% as sweet as table sugar but provides roughly 0.4 calories per gram, because the body absorbs it without metabolizing it for energy the way it does sugar.

Unlike most sugar substitutes, allulose is chemically a sugar, so it browns and bakes like the real thing; this is why a brownie sweetened with it tastes like a true sweet dessert. In the US, the FDA excludes allulose from “Total Sugars” and “Added Sugars” on nutrition labels. It is the main sweetener in the Lifemaxx brownie, along with a smaller amount of regular white sugar.

What Is the Relationship Between Allulose and GLP-1?

Early research suggests allulose may support the body's natural release of GLP-1 — the fullness and blood-sugar hormone that GLP-1 medications mimic. Most of that evidence comes from animal studies and small human trials, so it is promising but not conclusive.

What is well established: allulose has minimal effect on blood glucose and insulin. That, plus the emerging GLP-1 research, is why it has become a go-to sweetener for people on GLP-1 medications who still want dessert. We formulated the Lifemaxx brownie with GLP-1 users in mind, but we make no medical claims beyond what the research says.

Here is a list of published work on allulose with the type of study noted. Most of it is animal research or small pilots, with one controlled human trial. None of it studied the Lifemaxx brownie, but these are studies of allulose as an ingredient.

  • Human, controlled trial — Han et al. (2018), Nutrients 10(2):160. Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial reporting a dose-dependent reduction in body-fat mass in adults taking allulose.
  • Human, meta-analysis — Tani et al. (2023), PLOS ONE. Systematic review and meta-analysis finding allulose blunts the post-meal blood-glucose rise in healthy people.
  • Human, pilot — Fukunaga et al. (2023), Nutrients 15(12):2802. Small randomized crossover pilot of a D-allulose diet in people with type 2 diabetes.
  • Mechanism, animal — Iwasaki et al. (2018), Nature Communications 9:113. In mice, allulose triggered GLP-1 release and vagal-nerve signaling behind its metabolic effects.
  • Appetite, animal — Rakhat et al. (2022), Nutrients 14(15):3117; and Yermek et al. (2022), Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 613:159–165. Both report allulose activating appetite-suppressing pathways and reducing feeding in mice.
  • Energy/fat, animal — Ochiai et al. (2014), Int. J. Food Sci. Nutr. 65(2):245–250. Allulose raised energy expenditure and lowered fat accumulation in rats.
  • Review — Hossain et al. (2015), Pharmacology & Therapeutics 155:49–59. Overview of allulose's potential role in obesity and type 2 diabetes.

What Ingredients Promote Looksmaxxing?

Looksmaxxing starts with body composition: keep muscle while losing fat. To support this, we added protein from whey and mung bean isolate for muscle building, fiber from oat flour and psyllium husk to support digestion, and a low-calorie sweetener (allulose) that replaces sugar without replacing satisfaction.

No single food changes how you look, but a sustained calorie deficit with enough protein does. The Lifemaxx brownie is built to help you stay in a calorie deficit, so dessert stops being the thing that breaks the cut.

What About Allergens?

Contains: milk and eggs. It also contains oat flour and psyllium husk, and its protein comes from whey (a milk product) and mung bean isolate. Every batch is also handmade in our cottage kitchen in Pompano Beach, FL. We are not a dedicated allergen-free facility, so we can't guarantee any brownie is free of cross-contact with wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, or soy.

Why Do You Make Everything by Hand?

We are a brand-new company, and we want to spread our love of desserts and life to the world. We have not completed third-party laboratory testing yet and we are not scaled for mass production at this time. By buying our brownie, you are one of the first adopters of our product and our message, and we want to give you a great dessert while we abide by Florida state rules regarding cottage food operations.

Are Your Nutrition and Benefit Claims Verified?

We formulate every brownie to a target of about 15 g of protein and 8 g of fiber per serving, sweetened mostly with allulose. Until our first production run is complete, those figures are estimates based on our recipe rather than lab-verified values — the tested numbers and a full Nutrition Facts panel will appear on the product label.

When we talk about cutting, holding muscle, or looksmaxxing, we’re describing how the brownie fits a high-protein, calorie-controlled diet — not promising a result. Fat loss comes from a sustained calorie deficit, not from any single food, and this is a dessert, not a weight-loss or medical product. And when we call it “the first looksmaxxing food product,” that’s how we see the new category we’re building — our own positioning, not an independently verified ranking.
